2019 Summit
The 2019 Early Childhood Summit took place on September 13 & 14 at West Shoe Community College. The 4th annual Summit included an evening reception for community leaders. This reception honored local early childhood leaders, including Nicole Paul of the West Shore Educational Service District, who received the 2019 Champion for Childhood Award. Friday and Saturday were filled with interactive keynote addresses, breakout sessions, a learning cafe, and networking opportunities.
Keynote Speaker
Daniel J. Hodgins is an renowned presenter and author of two books titled, Boys: Changing the Classroom, Not the Child and his new book titled, GET OVER IT, Relearning guidance practices. Daniel works with educators, parents and other professionals, helping them to understand the research-based theory and how to adapt curriculum and environments that support the continued development of children and families. He has done keynotes, workshops, and seminars in over 48 states, Japan, and Canada.
At the 2018 Early Childhood Summit, Daniel’s keynote presentations included The Extinction of Childhood and What Don’t You Understand? Helping Develop Emotional Secure Children.
Attendees
Participants included child care providers, preschool teachers, early interventionists, home visitors, and parents. There was an average number of 120 participants per day representing 13 Michigan counties. Scholarships covered the cost of attendance for 89 participants.
