Champion for Childhood

 
 

The Champion for Childhood Award recognizes individuals who have positively impacted the lives of children and families in our region. This year’s selected nominees and the award recipient will be recognized on September 26 & 27, 2025, during the Early Childhood Summit at West Shore Community College. We will be accepting nominations for the 2025 Champion for Childhood Award in the summer of 2025.

Congratulations to our 2024 Recipients -

Patti Borucki and Mikayla Collins earned the Champion for Children award for 2024. The Champion for Childhood Award recognizes individuals who have positively impacted the lives of children and families in our communities.

The Champion for Childhood award is presented to individuals within the 5 county region of WSCC. The award recognizes individuals who have positively impacted the lives of children and families. 

Mikayla Collins - Is a lead teacher at Oaktree Academy. She is absolutely amazing and very kind. She treats each child as if they were hers. She is always friendly and is super helpful in all situations.

Patti Buroki - Manistee ISD Early On Coordinator “She is an inspiration through her classroom and her personality.” “She lives by the quote "If you have the ability to give, you have the responsibility to give." She is my inspiration to persist for the children and to always strive for excellence, and she does it by modeling appropriate practices and being a direct mentor, giving resources and support when a teacher expresses a need.”
